The Shepherd’s Six Points The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu - TopicsExpress

The Shepherd’s Six Points The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “O people, fear Allah and seek your sustenance in a Halal way because no one dies until he obtains his sustenance. So fear Allah and seek your sustenance in good ways. Take that which is permitted and leave that which is forbidden.” [Ibn Majah] Once Eesa (alaihis salam) saw an old shepherd tending to his flock and suggested to him that had he spent his entire life in the pursuit of knowledge rather than in shepherding it might have been better for him. The shepherd replied, “O Prophet of Allah! I have memorized six things and act on them. The first is that I try to earn a Halal living and keep away from Haraam income. The second is that I try to speak only the truth and avoid lies. The third is that I keep an eye on my own shortcomings and avoid looking at the defects in others. The fourth is that I fear the whispering of the Shaitaan and constantly seek refuge in Allah. The fifth is that I ask only from Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) regardless of what I need and do not look at the wealth and property of others. The sixth is that I constantly fear Allah (subhana wa ta’ala), am hopeful of His mercy, and seek refuge from His punishment.” On hearing this, Eesa (alaihis salam) said to him, “These points are the essence of knowledge. Now you need nothing else.”
