The Shooting Sports staff have been busy! One of the many advantages in living where we do here in beautiful Northern Maine is the amazing hunting options that we have year round: Deer,Bear, Moose, Ruffed Grouse, Bobwhite Quail, Fall Wild Turkey,Squirrel, Hare, Fox, Coyote (and thats just to name a few!), its no wonder that our RIFLE & SHOTGUN merit badges are popular classes this year also booked solid every week! This year we are excited to welcome back as our Shotgun & Rifle Instructor, Penquis Districts own from Millinocket, George Monti! George is a long time Scouter & helps us out in this area for other Council activities when needed. We are lucky to have him here! THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SHOTGUN & RIFLE: A shotgun is a precision instrument, designed to shoot a shot charge in a specific pattern to cover a designated area at a certain distance. Unlike a rifle, the bore of the shotgun is not rifled, so the shot emerging from the muzzle is not spinning. meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Shotgun_Shooting Unless a rifle is handled incorrectly or recklessly, it is not dangerous. A rifle, like any other precision instrument, is manufactured to perform a specific task and can do so at no risk to the user or others. By earning this badge, Scouts can develop their shooting skills while learning safe practices.meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Rifle_Shooting REMEMBER, AS ALWAYS, SAFETY FIRST! NO WILD GAME IS INVOLVED DURING THESE CLASSES.
