The Significance the Yarralumla Woolshed has to the Governor-General Residence. At one stage they were both part of the same property, Yarralumla ●1837 - NSW parliamentarian, Sir Terence Aubrey Murray, purchased the Yarralumla sheep station (It is also spelt Yarrowlumla, on some 19th century maps). ●1859 - Murray sold Yarralumla to his brother-in-law, Augustus Onslow Manby Gibbes. ●1881 - Augustus sold Yarralumla to Frederick Campbell, for 40,000 pounds. ●1904 - Campbell constructed the Yarralumla Woolshed. ●1913 - The Federal Government resumed this historic property. Yarralumla Homestead, has served as the residence of the Governor-General since then. Tenant farmers were allowed to stay on the land on annual leases, some remaining until 1963, when the Molonglo River was dammed to form Lake Burley Griffin.
