The Sister Missionary Tan Olá! So it is really really hot here - TopicsExpress

The Sister Missionary Tan Olá! So it is really really hot here in Tomar. And there is no air conditioning which is of course awful. Also, the highs here right now are about 20 degrees hotter than they normally are, 99 degrees instead of 80 degrees (according to the weather graph I received from my parents). Of course I would be here the year it is inexplicably much hotter than it should be. It´s funny, when we talk to people about the weather and they find out that I am from Texas and my companion is from Brazil they think that we should be used to the heat. But that is not true - in Texas we have air conditioning and swimming and frankly I never walk around outside in Texas when it is this hot; and the part of Brazil Sister Silva is from doesn´t get hot like this. Another downer to this heat is that no one else is around to talk to us either, because they are inside, where at least they are out of the sun. Also, this sun is really helping my sister missionary tan line. This includes a very distinct farmers tan, a work in progress skirt tan line, and best of all, a shoe tan line, with a thick band of white across my foot where the strap of my shoe crosses. And my feet: the part that is in the sun all day is very very dark - at least 5 shades darker than my legs, and then the part that is covered is still super white. So when my shoes are off, my feet sort of look dirty because of this stark contrast. But despite all this heat, this week was a week of miracles. There are two in particular I want to share. The first is about fasting. This week was fast Sunday, so we started our fast on Saturday afternoon - one of the things we were fasting for was that we would find a family to teach. A mere four hours after starting our fast, we found a family! Antonio and Maria and their son. We are meeting again with them this week. I now have a much stronger testimony that fasting works. The second was when we went to visit our new investigator Amelia, a student here in Tomar. We didn´t have an exact time set up to meet with her, and when we went to visit her, she wasn´t there. But her roommate was and when we asked if we could talk to her, she accepted. The lesson with her was great - she asked questions and the spirit was so strong. It was amazing that we were able to find her and teach her as well. We also had a fun Zone Conference in Lisbon on Thursday - lots of good training with President Fluckiger. And that was my week. I hope all of you are staying cool! Com amor, Sister Giberson
