The Sisters of Mercy, Girls School Building, 3 Barnes Rd., St. Johns. Long before The Sisters of Mercy acquired the building and opened it as a girls school, the building had an interesting historical note. In 1892, when it was a private residence, the Great Fire had left over two thirds of our fair city in smoldering ruins. Miraculously, despite all the buildings in the area being engulfed by the fire, the flames stopped mere feet from its doorstep and left it untouched.
