The Slow Rhythm of Nigerian Leadership to protect Doctors How would you feel if any of your family members is a doctor in Nigerian where authorities both on the federal and state levels are not doing enough to protect them and other healthcare professionals who put their lives in line of fire to save others? How will you feel when both the Federal and Lagos State governments are yet to provide adequate measures to protect health workers willing to manage those infected by the deadly virus? How do you feel knowing that the medical professionals are more than willing to manage those infected by the EVD; however, they are also humans who have families and dependents to protect; would you support them to go out there and risk their lives and that of their loved ones?. It is very crucial that the federal and Lagos state governments make available medical protective supplies and also provide insurance that will take care of the doctors, nurses and other health professionals involved in treating and managing infected persons. In a news conference on Sunday according to AP, the doctors and nurses said in Lagos, “that the government had yet to put in place adequate measures to protect health workers willing to manage those infected by the deadly virus”. Countries as small as Liberia, Serra Leon are better managing the Ebola outbreak in their respective countries than Nigeria, the giant of Africa (My foot) If nothing else that could move this ever slow nation into action, let it be the density of population of Lagos State. Lagos is the mover and shaker of Nigerian life. Half of the Nigerian population will be wiped out if the government continues in its snail pace in making sure lives are saved. There is urgent need for action. By the way, the US-African Summit just ended in Washington DC, in partnership for growth and development, how t could that be when that continent is bowed down with health crisis yet, America and the rest of the world allowed us to die and suffer. Meanwhile, they are people who has the same disease are being treated with an experimental drug that has so far slowed the disease and is sure to save their lives. What a paradox of partnership!
