The Snowden NSA snooping scandal is like worrying about Telegrams - TopicsExpress

The Snowden NSA snooping scandal is like worrying about Telegrams not being shredded. Many metro areas are working on these Mesh Networks under the guise of security and natural disaster preparedness. The data can be compiled locally and compiled nationally as every mesh node can speak to one another. No central boggy man like the NSA to fear but quiet local police agencies working in concert. What data? Cell phone locations, tablet locations, all wireless device RF signals and internal data (TV, Lap Tops, Desk Tops, Pulse monitors, Baby Monitors, Car GPS devices, etc), Car license plates with time/location (parked or driving) Smart Meters can tell them when you are home. Tax for miles instead of gas tax will record everywhere you travel. Intellistreets can monitor gun shots- good right? Yes but it also records conversations and tracks with facial and voice recognition. The Mesh part is where all this data is crunched. The 9 San Francisco Bay Area counties are building a 140 million dollar data center to this end. Well... for now its just to coordinate license plate data from patrol cars. When these regional data centers are meshed you have a national system with no apparent head and no accountability. The Seattle PD came up with this gem: the department is not comfortable answering policy questions when we do not yet have a policy. Oh well... as long as you install the technology first, then talk about the rules, that sounds smart to me. Do you feel safer already?
