The Social Justice Committee will show the movie I Am on Sunday, August 3 at 12:30 p.m. in Rm L. I Am is a documentary by director Tom Shadyac, telling the story of his personal spiritual journey. Shadyac became famous as a comedy-writer and director of comic films such as Ace Ventura, Pet Detective; The Nutty Professor; Liar Liar; and Bruce Almighty. After suffering from post-concussion syndrome following a bicycle accident in 2007, however, Shadyac began a quest for connection and enlightenment. He gave away most of his wealth to charitable causes, moved into a trailer park, and began to explore ideas about the problems in todays society, and how they might be solved. I Am documents the evolution of Shadyacs life and philosophy, and addresses larger questions about society through interviews with leading scientists, philosophers, and religious leaders.
