The Soldiers Home National Cemetery played a key role during Lincolns stay at the Cottage. Lincoln literally witnessed thousands of burials just outside his front window, and the burials peaked during the fall of 1862 when he issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Just in time for Memorial Day, two staff members at the Cottage have created a website dedicated to the cemetery. They provide the historical background of the Cemetery, a graphical analysis of the burials, and the larger context of Civil War death and creation of National Cemeteries. Check it out: ussahcemetery.wordpress And dont forget about our Memorial Day Program on Monday May 26, when youll get a chance to walk in the cemetery just like Lincoln did 150 years ago. lincolncottage.org/memorialday2014/
