The Somnath Bharti fiasco The issue was right. There seems to be a problem of prostitution and drug peddling but the way it was handled appears to be wrong. The larger issue here was that the Delhi govt. has no control of the Delhi police. The law minister could have done much better than his khap panchayat like functioning. He is now a minister and should act tactfully. Another point that stands out here is that despite the chief minister himself protesting, he was unable to suspend even a lowly cop. Despite the criticism, one thing is apparent that there is policy lacunae in case of Delhi. A full statehood demand must be made. The chief minister and his cabinet should not have sat on a dharna. There are many forms of protests available. The chief minister could have directed his cadre to protest. The CM could have taken up the larger issue at a political level. He could have used this issue to drum up support across the political spectra and affect policy change.
