The Sounds of Christmas at the East Chicago Public Library EAST CHICAGO (November 12, 2013) – The East Chicago Public Library will usher in the holiday season with its annual Christmas event. This year’s event, which will take place on December 10 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., has a new theme, “The Sounds Christmas” and promises to be alive with music, fun, and entertainment. Join us as we light Christmas trees representing some of the ethnic groups that make up the city. In addition, East Chicago service members and Veterans who lost their lives while serving our country will receive special recognition at this year’s tree lighting ceremony with a dedicated “Patriotic Tree” decorated in red, white and blue with photographs of local soldiers, some who have lost their lives, retired service members and veterans of past wars. The community is encouraged to bring in a photograph of your loved one who is currently serving in the military or is a veteran and be a part of the “Patriotic Tree.” Photos must be turned in no later than November 18th. The evening will feature solo pianist Deborrah Wyndham, who will perform several seasonal favorites past and present. Ms. Wyndham is a highly acclaimed pianist/compose?r she shares her own arrangements of various holiday pieces both traditional and popular. With styles ranging from contemporary, classical and jazz to ragtime, she plays holiday songs from both the past and the present. Seen on FOX, NBC and ABC and with over 3,000 performances nationwide, Deborrah Wyndham plays something for everyone! Following her performance, the public is invited to join in “Christmas Karaoke Christmas Caroling,” where guests will have a chance to sing their favorite Christmas tunes. Come one, come all - neither age nor gender matter, and the more the merrier! Anyone who knows a few carols and would like to bring holiday cheer should come and join the fun. Light refreshments will also be served. The event is free and open to the public. All are welcome. The public is also invited to view our Christmas display where the sights, sounds, and spirit of Christmas will completely surround you in this amazing display, which will be featured in the Templeton Gallery located in the Main Library. Throughout the month, we encourage people to take their family pictures in front of anyone of the beautifully decorated, beautifully lit trees.
