The Spiritual Discipline of the Gospel In order to be a disciple of Christ, we must learn to live under spiritual discipline. Discipline is ‘God-centered’….It says, I will do this because I love God and want to please Him. As you begin to make changes to live as a disciplined woman of God, allow Him to gently (or sometimes brutally) chisel away at your life to make it one of substance. Get rid of every association, habit, and tendency that impedes godliness. Train yourself, just as an athlete trains. Be diligent in prayer, study, and worship. The Gospel, or the complete Word of God, brings dignity and value to our life. It must be the foundation of everything we are and everything we do! If we allow it, it will convert every area of our heart. The gospel will define us, satisfy us, equip us and motivate us. The Word of the Lord is alive and it is sharper than a two-edged sword. It will cut through darkness and prevail over the enemy. It sets captives free, breaks chains of bondage and restores wrong thinking patterns. It will break you and rebuild you. The gospel seeks to convert every area of our hearts and lives – it’s all encompassing. As you study the scripture, allow it to explain Him. Seek to KNOW Him. It’s all about God’s plan to restore us to what we were created to be. We were all active participants in His death on the cross. Our sins were the nails and thorns. Come to God on His terms and let it shape everything about you. Ways to get more of His Word in you: -Attend a bible study -Watch YouTube sermons -Play bible trivia -Have family devotions -Research biblical topics on the internet -Read wholesome books that contain scripture references -Read devotionals -Memorize scriptures – there are apps available to help with this -Use websites/apps like Blue Letter Bible to dissect the scriptures -Do your own self-study by using a guide book from the Christian bookstore -Listen to the bible on CD -Take your bible to church with you and take notes during the sermon -Follow a schedule to read the entire bible in one year (link below) Finally…..never, ever lose the wonder of John 3:16! “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.” - Deuteronomy 11:18 “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” - Psalm 119:11 “ For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” - Hebrews 4:12 “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. – Proverbs 30:5 esv.org/assets/pdfs/rp.chronological.pdf
