The St. Louis Rams made a bold statement about a MO grand jurys refusal to indict Ferguson officer #DarrenWilson for killing #MikeBrown during yesterdays game. As the players took the field for the first time since the non-indictment decision was announced many defiantly raised their hands and arms in a “hands up, don’t shoot” gesture. And they werent the only athletes reacting to the grand jurys failure. NBA stars Kobe Bryant, Dwayne Wade, Magic Johnson, Lebron James and tennis superstar Serena Williams all chimed in and expressed disappointment with the indictment decision. The media, police and politicians will say now is the time for Black folks to disband our police accountability movement and be quiet. But our movement is strong, and we will not sit quiet as police officers continue to kill Black folks with impunity. These athletes took a powerful stand and while many of us do not have a worldwide audience watching our every move each of us has a voice and we should raise it in this moment.
