The Staff Captain who is a great friend of mine returned ti the ship having been home in Italy for the birth of his son. On seeing me on the bridge for the safety briefing he welcomed me in the way Italia men always do……….with a kiss The “man kiss” is all very strange to me and is a show of affection which despite the fact that I see these people maybe once or twice a year feel its mandatory to kiss me. I have never quite mastered the social greeting and I am also someone who believes that you should kiss only a) your children and b) the person you are having rumpy pumpy with c) any photo of Megan Fox’s bottom. The clashing heads, should I or shouldn’t I go for the other cheek too, the mutual whiff of halitosis caused by pasta dolloped with garlic. The Calvyn arrived and he knows that unless he wants to feel my shoe nestling in his dangly bits not to kiss me. So he does the man hug thing. Yep…….. the man hug is a minefield. Pat or not to pat on the back? If the chap hugging you is considerably taller like Calvyn is will I end up nuzzled into his chest and risk suffocation? Where do I place my arms – around his neck? Too childish. Around his waist? Too romantic. On his arse………not while I have breath in my body. Whatever happened to just simply……………shaking hands? Wywh as we start another glorious Alaskan cruise
