The State I’m In Words and Music Copyright 2013 by David Cottle/Defiance I walked down the roads and I drove the interstates. I flew off that cliff with one foot on the brakes. Tried to do right but made so many mistakes I rode a horse through the rain and the flood I’ve been kicked in the dirt and crawled thru the mud Lived through the cancer but got caught by the crud. I climbed up that mountain and I fell down the hill I tried to make it big but I didn’t have the will Drank from the fountain till I had my fill Nobody knows the state it I’m in. Chorus The state I’m In, The state I’m In, The state I’m In, Is wearing rather thin The state I’m In, The state I’m In, Nobody knows the state it I’m in. I’ve been left at the door and been kicked to the curb I met a pretty woman but I lost my nerve Sang out a song that didn’t have any words I jumped out the window and I tried to fly. I ‘bout broke my neck ‘cause it wasn’t very high. Don’t like the pain but I’m afraid to die. Nobody knows the state it I’m in. Chorus Bridge Well I’ve roamed and I’ve traveled all over this land Trying to find a place to make my stand Tried to live my life but God had other plans. I robbed that l train and I stole a hundred grand Fate came knocking and I answered the door I Fell down hard but never found the floor. And I kept on pushing, trying for more. I heard the angels sing and answered satin’s call I always wanted more when I finally had it all. I made it up to heaven but I knew I had to fall.
