The State of the Soma Address. Of pain and the surreal... Im at that stage now where those hard working coughing muscles are fatigued to the point where I can feel each breath. Not taking respiration for granted at the moment. Its not the cold medicine, I swear, I fell asleep without it. Then I awoke, and not in the spiritually enlightening way of the Buddha, but more so in the manner of the despondent realisation of consciousness that made Jean Paul Sartre the laugh a minute guy he really was. I can not say for certain what old JP got up to in his noodle at 2:30am, but I am pretty sure his thoughts were different from mine. My feeble brain-box congers the idea of re-writing The Hunt for Red October as a musical. Wouldnt it be even better with some punchy show tunes in counterpoint to that vast and moving Red Army Chorus? Consider. Doctor, this is a war vessel of the Soviet Navy, we do not turn around because of accidents. Cut to the bridge crew singing, We dont stop for nobody, We dont stop for nobody! Then the internal dialogue turns to a critical debate of this idea. The left hemisphere argues that the very idea is so absurd as to suggest there must be a problem in the circuitry and perhaps a period of headbanging might resolve the problem. The right hemisphere argues that the musical, as a form, is an incompatibilist position whose success can not be judged within a deterministic framework. The left hemisphere generates a moderately sized explosive sneeze in retaliation. The right hemisphere claims victory through appeal to authority citing the success of a musical about torturous suffering, childhood abuse, and evil obsession, then yells across the cranium, oh yeah, so explain Les Miserables! The left hemisphere then declares that all logical fallacies will be punished and creates a coughing fit of sufficient intensity to make me think I was about to throw-up. So, here I am at my computer in the middle of the night. It all seems quite rational to me, I mean, would you want to be in bed with those two?
