The Statue! My kids talked me into taking my first ship - TopicsExpress

The Statue! My kids talked me into taking my first ship cruise...to Mexico a number of years ago. Had a great time despite my apprehensions. Back in Houston I had a day to kill so I wondered around some antique shops. Nothing much looked all that interesting till I spotted this statue in a backroom cabinet. I figured it was either wood or plastic, or plaster.....but it looked too detailed to be an imitation. The shopkeeper came and opened the cabinet. When she handed me the statue, I was immediately astonished at how heavy it was......having dabbled in the collectable business years earlier, I realized this is a bronze casting......I was HOOKED! I tried to hide my enthusiasm as we talked price......setting it back in the cabinet as she told me what the owner wanted for it..... My heart was thumping as I made a ridiculously weak offer. She said she would call the owner........ To my huge surprise, the owner took my offer!!!!! It was all the cash in my pocket I had left from my trip. Long story short.....No one knew anything about this piece. Evidently the statue had been used to make a cast as it still had plaster of paris in the crevasses..... Ive researched it, but to no avail. So it is a mystery where it was made..no markings, no identifying features. Its about 14 tall, the Victorian lady is holding a Scottie dog. I has the brown brushed look of bronzes from the 1900-20s. Maybe you guys can solve the mystery!.........Freddie
