So what is the problem with all of this? Plyometrics are not a form of training for the beginner, or even the intermediate athlete. Before you look to begin performing Plyometric training, heres what you need to know. Plyometric training is an advanced Eastern Method of speed and power development. The goal of plyometric training is to harness the power of rapid eccentric contractions and convert that elastic energy from the musculotendinous junction into a powerful concentric contraction. This response is titled the stretch shortening cycle (SSC) and is measured through the Reactive Strength Index (RSI) Furthermore, sport science indicates that achieving the full benefit of this response requires a solid foundation of strength.
