The Subsidy Reinvestment Programme (SURE-P) has created no fewer than 3,000 jobs for the youths and women in Anambra, the state Chairman of the programme, Mr Anayo Nebe, has said. Nebe made this known in Awka on Monday at a one-day workshop with the theme: “Repositioning the value system of the youths for a better society’’. The workshop was organised by the Anambra Achievers Forum in conjunction with the National Orientation Agency (NOA). Nebe said the programme was established to assist youths to develop and integrate into the society. The chairman, a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, said that by April 2013, another set of 2,000 youths would be employed under the programme “Those employed are expected to work in their respective communities and they will be paid N10, 000 monthly,’’ he said. Nebe praised NOA for supporting the youth programmes in Anambra, saying he was impressed that the state took first position in activities organised by NOA. He commended the State Government for prudent management of resources, accountability, and steadfastness in the execution of projects. In his remarks, the state Director of NOA, Mr Obi Enemo, said Nigerian youths, who constituted 43 per cent of the nation’s population, had contributed to national development. He expressed concern about the high unemployment rate among the youths and called on governments, corporate organisations and other Nigerians to create employment opportunities for them. Enemo advised participants at the workshop to ensure that they use information gathered from the workshop to broaden their knowledge. Earlier, the Chairman, Anambra Achievers Forum, Mr Obi Dike, urged the youths to shun thuggery during election and utilise their time to improve the society. Dike also urged the government and private sector to create employment for the teeming youths.
