The Sundarbans, Two photos: when a thick fog blurred the stains ... and when it didnt. The two are taken 6 mins apart in the area around the site of the spill, a week after the event. We finally had to dock as the fog was just too thick. I could imagine what might have happened a week earlier there. Heres what was baffling ... we did transects over and over, high tide, low tide, day 4,5,6,7.... and no two times did we find what we expected in the place we expected. The tides, the river, the oil, everything in constant motion as the ecosystem ebbs and swells. Life has found a magical way to optimize itself on the brink of brine.
