The Supreme Court on Thursday sought Federation’s stance over the delay in the construction of the New Benazir Bhutto International Airport (NBBIA) project. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case regarding irregularities in the construction of New Benazir International Airport. During the hearing, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that massive embezzlement and irregularities were exposed in the current matter saying otherwise the NBBIA construction would have been completed. Additional Advocate General for Pakistan Shah Khawar pleaded that the project was of national interest and construction companies should not be barred from working as the matter would be handed over to investigation agency soon. The chief justice said the government should have handed over the matter to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) by now. Shah Khawar however, said that the matter was under adjudication in the apex court which should refer the same to any investigation agency. The chief justice while showing concern over unreasonable delay in the completion of the project said that action should be taken against the CAA if found involved in the delay of the NBBIA construction.Meanwhile, the court adjourned the hearing till September 2 and directed the federation to submit its stance over the delay in the instant matter.
