The Swan for a Meal I have personally visited the swan once or twice a year for the last 25 years or so. Food has ALWAYS up to now been well above average and I have never had a single complaint or gripe to make. Usually though the food and experience was very commendable. So.... whats happened? The Decor - Whilst its fresh and ambient and very pleasant and relaxing its not really an improvement on what went before. Pubs get better with age and oldism a lot of the time and this would have been true here. There were never any complaints about decor before so why it was decided to change it I dont know but it was in my opinion the wrong decision and only necessary when it got to the point that it was becoming detrimental to the business. Greetings - Was welcomed by Danielle who was delightful and gave us our menus and escorted us to our table. Smile and cheer was there - Danielle failed however to advise us that ordering was to be made at the bar - although it is on the menu how to order. Ordering - This was simply done at the bar - The barmaid was not rude but at the same time wasnt particularly thrilled at serving me. I returned to my table with the drinks for my girlfriend and I. The drinks were excellent. FOOD 10 mins after ordering (2 x Scampi) the food arrived in a basket! Now - the menu does say scampi in a basket - but not the whole meal surely. My experience anywhere else and also here previously was the scampi in the basket accompanied by a platter of the rest of the food. The food consisted of 7 pieces of scampi ( which was proper scampi) 3 slithers of red onion. 1 slice of white onion, 1/8th of a smallish tomato. 1 piece of lemon. and then massacarred by cheap chips. The taste was bland. No one asked us if our meal was ok either. At £8 plus each for the food I thought it was way overpriced and the owner has taken his eye off the ball onto his bank balance. Sorry The Swan but I will not be returning for a long time until you buck up your ideas. The menus are not explicit enough either.
