The Syria debate is creating very interesting coalitions and alliances. Kristoff reluctantly supports action in Syria while it looks like all or most of the MSNBC hosts reluctantly oppose it. I thought Chris Hayes was particularly thoughtful last night in opposing strikes. This public debate mirrors what many are seeing in our own families and personal (as well as social) networks. All the options are terrible and filled with dangers -- for us and for the Syrian people. Congress does not seem to be as thoughtful with typical partisan posturing. And then there is the crazy Rush Limbaugh who asserted that President Obama helped the Syrian rebels frame President Assad (the real victim). I am inclined to agree with Kristoff here, and would most likely vote that way if I were in Congress. But I think we all have to accept -- whatever our views on military strikes -- that things look very bleak in the near to mid term. This is a very tragic way to begin the New Year.
