The TCS New York City Marathon won a very special international award today—the 2014 Prince of Asturias Award for Sports. The award is part of a series of eight annual Prince of Asturias Prizes that cover the Arts to Social Science. We are pleased to join previous winners in the Sport category such as Rafael Nadal, Haile Gebrselassie, and Steffi Graf. Mary Wittenberg, President & CEO of New York Road Runners (NYRR) & Race Director of the TCS New York City Marathon, shares a note of appreciation. It is an incredible honor for the TCS New York City Marathon to receive the 2014 Prince of Asturias Award for Sports. For the nearly one million runners from around the world who have finished the New York City Marathon since it began in 1970, this is their award, too. With the help of our New York City agency partners and the support of millions of New Yorkers throughout the five boroughs, the marathon has helped and inspired people from around the world to run for life. We thank the jury members involved in the selection and The Prince of Asturias Foundation for recognizing the race and the people of New York City. euronews/2014/06/18/new-york-marathon-wins-asturias-sports-award/ Read more: fpa.es/en/prince-of-asturias-awards/awards/2014-the-new-york-city-marathon.html?especifica=0&idCategoria=0&anio=2014&especifica=0.
