The THIRD PREMISE is written in The Mobile Beacon. Read that paper to see the rest if interested. I do NOT submit article to the Press-Register and you KNOW why. Follow me in The Beacon. African American Education by Joseph Mitchell, Ph.D., 9-24-2014 We must start someplace so lets try this. Please follow me. The word premise suggests a foundation. It has come to mean a starting point so let me set our premise. Typically in logical debate, one sets his premise and all of his argument is based on the foundation of the premise. If you want to argue against him, you first shoot down his premise. Reject the premise as unfounded and everything built uponI is ipso facto unfounded Our FIRST PREMISE is that EVERYTHING that IS has causation and has been CAUSED BY SOMETHING ELSE! That is a big statement. Imagine ANYTHING. Not just things, objects and artifacts but people, their personalities and their ideas. An artist paints, a musician plays, a dance dances - all caused by something. Students learn or dont learn because they are caused to learn or not learn. Its the same for teachers and administrators. They are caused to not teach or to not administer. We will see that doing what is supposed to be done can be caused by internal (intrinsic), external (extrensic) factor or some combination of both. But causation is there under our premise. Our SECOND PREMISE is that BEHAVIOR is measurable and defines what happens to us. Somebodys behavior affected what happened to us. Why were you late or on time for work today? Think about every event that lead up to your circumstance. Then look at YOUR BEHAVIOR. You may have THOUGH about being on time but your timeliness was predicated on your behavior, regardless (There is no such word as irregardless.) of your thoughts and intentions. How you behave is the only way to affirm you intent. Circumstances outside of yourself can change intended outcomes but you are ultimately responsible for your behavior. If you are late to work every day, you better change something or your employer will. Get reliable transportation, change your driving route, get up or go to bed earlier. Change your behavior. Likewise the behavior of others will have an affect on you and your behavior UNLESS your behavior changes. Lets reduce Newtonian and partial physics down to what we see every day. Lets put the hay down where the goats can get it! An object at rest tends to stay at rest until acted upon by some external force. An object that is moving will continue to move unless it is acted upon by some outside force. The social application of these physical sciences spur our THIRD PREMISE. If you do not do something to stop racist behavior towards you and your community, that racist behavior will continue. We do not, for example believe that the Civil War was fought for the betterment of Black people. We do not believe that it was fought to free enslaved Black people. Look however at how much devastation had to occur to change things. An institution that was over three hundred years old was ended after a four year war and Those who had been enslaved were no better off. None of the contents of the U.S. Constitution applied to us then and few aspects of The Constitution apply fully to us today. Were till lynched, shots down in the streets and imprisoned by an injustice system.
