The TPD Youth Citizens Police Academy (YCPA) is an informative program designed for the youth in Tallahassee that provides an opportunity for participants to receive seven weeks of presentations regarding the various responsibilities facing our officers. YCPA participants are also made aware of the procedures and techniques used by officers in a variety of scenarios, together with the rationale and justification in support of those procedures or techniques. Class attendees receive information and instruction on such issues as patrol operations, traffic enforcement, use of force, criminal investigations, crime lab and evidence gathering techniques, demonstrations by the Tactical Apprehension Control Team (TAC) and K-9 Unit, and much more. Classes are one day a week on Tuesdays from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. There are two days where the classes are on a Monday for the K9 Demo and a Thursday for the Tactical Apprehension and Control Team Demo. This is a new program being hosted by the Tallahassee Police Department. Classes will be held twice a year in January and June. Class size is limited to no more than 20 participants.
