The TRUTH about Horseshoe bend: Kingwood Township bought - TopicsExpress

The TRUTH about Horseshoe bend: Kingwood Township bought Horseshoe Bend Park in 2011 for about $3.2 million. Before the purchase this land had been approved for construction of 70 homes. Now the land is permanently preserved. Funding included: $2 million from the state of New Jersey $694,791 from the New Jersey Green Acres Fund $444,079 from the New Jersey Conservation Foundation $61,129 from Kingwood Township open space taxes. The amount the township actually spent on the park… $60k is laughable. It amounts to $135 an acre. The rest of the money came from the state of NJ, Green acres and private funds. The park is mixed use. The park is also adjacent to another 300+ acre parcel that was already preserved land. It is also not just another piece of land. It contains a watershed and is a sensitive habitat. Its high meadows are home to meadowlarks, bobolinks, redwing blackbirds, and many other grassland species. Bald eagles and hawks are believed to nest here. Copper Creek and other small streams flow through the park before tumbling down the bluffs into the Delaware River. Improvements on the property include an 11,000-square-foot equestrian center, barns and other farm structures as well as seven miles of existing trails.
