The TV show, Hawaii Five-O, has asked the City to evict the homeless from a part of Kakako Makai, because they intend to film a sequence there next week. Five-O likes to pretend they are a Good Neighbor and a part of the Hawaii Ohana. But why should they need to have the lives of our homeless disrupted so they can present a fantasy image of Hawaii to their viewers? Why cant the mainland viewers see that we ahve many poor and destitute people living in our parks and on our sidewalks? How does that interfere with their storyline? If the y really want to be a good neighbor, they would resort a bit less on their shoot em up fantasy tales and inject a little bit of realism. There was an early episode, one with lifeguard Mark Cunningham appearing as Konos surfing mentor, where they portrayed a fictional homeless encampment on the North Shore in a way sympathetic to the residents. What happened to that effort to tell meaningful stories? What kind of soulless operation is FIVE-O that it requires our City officials inflict pain on the already destitute people of Hawaii forced to live on the margins? Hey, Hawaii FIVE-O, where is your Aloha? Shame on you. And shame on the city.
