The Tallit (Tallith), also called the prayer shawl, is a garment - TopicsExpress

The Tallit (Tallith), also called the prayer shawl, is a garment worn by Jewish men and women. It is made with four frnges (tzitzit) at the corners (borders) - Num. 15:38; Deut. 22:12. These are reminders of the commandments of Yahweh. The Scriptures tell of a story in which a woman who had a bleeding for twelve years and could not be healed. She touched the hem of Christs garment and she was healed. Why did she touch the hem of His garment? Let us go back to the original Greek text. The word translated hem is the Gr. κράσπεδον (kraspedon) which means a margin, i.e. (special) a fringe or tassel :- border, hem (James Strong). In Malachi 4:2, the Scriptures state, But unto you that fear My name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings. The Sun of Righteousness is a title for the Messiah - the Christ. Does the Messiah have wings? No, at least not in the sense that we know wings. Again, checking the Hebrew word used here we find כָּנָף (kānāp) which means an edge or extremity; specifically (of a bird or army) a wing, (of a garment or bed-clothing) a flap, (of the earth) a quarter, (of a building) a pinnacle; uttermost part (Strong). Again we see a reference being made not to literal wings in this context of th Messiah, but rather to the border of His garment - the fringe (tzitzit). When this woman pushed to touch Jesus fringe (border, wing) she was actually claiming the promise of Malachi 4:2, while expressing her faith that Jesus of Nazareth was really the true Messiah (the Christ). That in itself was deep faith. She must have seen/heard the things He did and said and her faith was certain that Jesus of Nazareth was the promised Messiah. In this more than anything else, was her faith that made her whole (complete). Note Matthew 14:35-36: 35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; 36 And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole. Indeed, Jesus of Nazareth was the true Messiah, the Christ, the anointed One, and He came to fulfill the declaration of Isaiah. 1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Isaiah 61:1-3 See also Luke 4:14-22 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
