The Taste of Tears by Pastor Andrew Vuksic You have fed them - TopicsExpress

The Taste of Tears by Pastor Andrew Vuksic You have fed them with the bread of tears; you have made them drink tears by the bowlful. (Psalm 80:5) Psalm 80 is of Asaph where he is pleading for Gods anger to stop and Gods mercy to begin. He begs God to restore His broken people. He pleads with God to once again make His face shine on His people. He cries out to God for grace so that the people would no longer have to taste the terrible taste of their tears. How long, Lord God Almighty, will your anger smolder against the prayers of your people? You have fed them with the bread of tears; you have made them drink tears by the bowlful. You have made us an object of derisionto our neighbors, and our enemies mock us. (Psalm 80:4-6 NIV) Do you see it? The people were in such pain and agony, feeling as though Gods anger would never subside, that their mourning became as frequent as their daily drinks and meals. In other words, they constantly had taste of tears on their tongues. It seems that this Psalm was written from Jerusalem as the people watched in astonishment as the ten northern tribes were taken into captivity by the Assyrians (ca. 722 BC). They must have been crying out and asking why God would allow this to happen to His people. Where was Gods love for His people? Why would He allow the pagans to do this to the Israelites? And they must have also wondered if they, the southern kingdom of Judah, would be next. Return to us, God Almighty! Look down from heaven and see! Watch over this vine, the root your right hand has planted, the sonyou have raised up for yourself. (Psalm 80:14-15 NIV) Christian, can you relate to any or all parts of this Psalm? Better yet, have you tasted some of your own tears lately? Rather than letting your circumstances take control of your emotions, look to the Lord and be reminded that He is in full control of your circumstances. Even if you dont understand the why and what of your circumstances including those difficult things you are facing today! Todays Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the reminder that you are in full control of all. You know how I have been hurting as of late. May your grace and mercy replace the taste of my tears. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. For further reading: Psalm 80; 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 Pastor Andrew Vuksic is an ordained Presbyterian Minister.
