The Temple Institute FIRST-EVER HASMONEAN BUILDING DISCOVERED IN JERUSALEM Full story: israelnationalnews/News/News.aspx/174744 Arutz 7 For the first time ever, remains of a Hasmonean building in the city are being exposed. In recent months, the remains of an impressive building from the Hasmonean period – specifically, the second century BCE – are being unearthed in excavations in Jerusalem. The dig is being carried out by the Israel Antiquities Authority in the Givati parking lot, located in the City of David, in the Walls Around Jerusalem National Park. The building stands about 4 meters high and covers an area of about 64 square meters. The building’s broad walls, more than one meter thick, are made of roughly hewn limestone blocks that were arranged as headers and stretchers, a construction method characteristic of the Hasmonean period.
