The Test of Love Truth is a very stable substance that has no half life. It is solid. It is unchangeable. It is true. It always has a full life. Though its wrapping may change, truth remains the same old truth. Truth is no mere intellectual abstraction but concrete acts realized in the practice of love. Here is a cardinal truth about faith in Jesus Christ: if you love Jesus you cannot hate people around you. You can’t love Jesus and still be a hater. When you love, you walk in the light of God’s truth; when you don’t love, you walk in the darkness of sin’s deception. Here is what Jesus said about this highly prized Kingdom commodity: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy’. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have: Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matthew 5:43-48. Satanic forces can, through the charismaniac spirit, fake all the miracles and perform signs and blunders but they can never fake love. They can, through the Pharisaical spirit, also fake all the right doctrines and say all the right things but they can never fake love. The singular most astounding thing about the Christian God is that He loves so much that He humbled Himself to become human and paid for their sins in a most despicable and excruciating death (John 3:16). That is love. “Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.” 1 John 2:9-11, English Standard Version. May you walk in truth today! May you sift through the fakes and their signs and blunders! May you discern the Pharisees and their counterfeit loveless doctrine! May God’s light of love shine through you today to the world around you! May you do something loving to someone in your office, classroom, shop, neighbourhood, or wherever God has placed you today! May you love today!
