The Texas rangers were given a nickname by the mexican people - TopicsExpress

The Texas rangers were given a nickname by the mexican people during the time period around the republic of Texas and the Mexican American war. Los Diablos Tejanos Those Devil Texans. Following no rules of engagement and wearing no uniform, General Zachary Taylor(Later US president Taylor) got so frustrated he kicked them out of his army and pawned them off on General Winfield Scotts invasion force that took Mexico city. Possesing remarkable and invaluable skills in terrain knowledge, frontier tactics and exceptional combat prowess aquired from the 10 years of prior service on the frontier they were invaluable to the U.S. war effort. Any given rangers worth would equate to well over a hundred regular soldiers just in terms of combat advantage and stories of rangers holding out against more than that number of native americans solo for hours are well docuemented, intellegence gathering on the part of the texans was also remarkably skilled. On one occasion a particular ranger disqused himself as a mexican soldier, because of his tan he looked the part completely and spoke good enough spanish to blend into a mexican camp, for an entire day he just hung out and gathered intelligence on the mexican forces and plans of attack and simply walked off the next day to report back to General Taylor with massive cache of intel simply because the ranger felt like it. Talk about an interesing group of dudes in an organization thats still around today.
