Match Report Greater Northern Tigers vs Western Rams @Resco Park Singleton The strong Rams side lead by a former Northern Division Tiger in Dennis Moran, were a tough and physical opponent, with the game in the balance until the last 2 minutes of the game. The Tigers opened the scoring through Greta Branxtons Brady Hammond, who pushed off a defender to score on the right after 3 minutes. Joel Harrisons conversion was waived away and the Tigers led by 4 to nil. The nest 30 minutes was an arm wrestle with the forwards led by captain Daniel Ritter (Scone), Marcus Marsh (Aberdeen) and Ben Hagan (Denman) mixing it with the Rams fowards led by Jack Afamasaga and Brent Seager. The forward battle was physical both packs not wanting to give an inch against their opponent. The Tigers had a try disallowed with an obstruction call between Brady Hammond and Joey Griffiths midway through the first half, but with 5 minutes left in the 1st half a penalty in fron tof the sticks allowed Scones Joel Harrison to give the Tigers 2 points and go into half time with a 6 to nil lead. The 2nd half started like the first with the fowards trying to exert their dominance on the opposition. Bathurst Panthers front rower Brent Seager continually carted the ball forwrad for the Rams and looked to sit any Tiger that came is way on their backside with some great contact in defence. 10 minutes into the 2nd half the Rams hit back when centre Tom Lewsley was able to find some space for Dubbo Macquaries Chris Daley to scoot over. Mudgee Dragon Lewsley nailed the conversion from the sideline and the scores were locked at 6 all. Both sides had some opportunities to take the lead, but the last pass went astray at times. The Rams Wade Judd (Oberon) and Benjamin John (Bathurst St Pats) added some spark from the bench while forwards Seager and Hagan continued to give everything until getting a rest in the last 15 minutes of the game. A penalty with 4 minutes left on the clock to the Tigers gave Joel Harrison the opportunity to take the Tigers to the lead but he pushed the kick to the left of the posts. With the game in the balance a great set of six from the Tigers looked to set them up for a field goal attempt, but Scones Tim Smith skipped out of dummy half and scored the winning try with 1:40 left in the clock. Harrison converted the try and the Tigers led 12 to 6. A short kick off gave the Rams and opportunity, but the Tigers were able to hol them out and secure the win. All players from both teams were exhausted after the physical dour battleand all should be proud of representing the Green and White of Western and the Bumblebees of Greater Northern.
