The Tilted Picture Frame The Messenger of Allah (ﺳﻴﺪﻧﺎ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺻﻠﯽ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﯽٰ ﻋﻠﯿﮧ ﻭﺍٓﻟﮧ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ) said: “Allah hates the one who does not smile at others and looks uncheerful.” [Dailami] Have you ever made a list of Allah’s likes and dislikes from the Quran and Sunnah? Under the heading of “Dislikes” you will be able to put Ayaat and Ahadith on Allah’s distaste for extravagance, obscenity, begging, injustice, arrogance, etc. This would be a good way in which to get to know your Lord. During the Ottoman era, a woman hung a picture frame on a wall of her house. In the evening, when her husband came home, she showed him the frame on the wall. The husband said, “It is nice. But instead of here if you had hung it on that wall it would possibly have looked better.” The woman collapsed and fainted. When she recovered consciousness everybody asked, “What happened? Why did you faint?” She replied, “I have been his wife for this many years yet I have not understood him enough to feel in my heart what he feels in his heart, so I was so distressed that I fainted.” Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) is our greatest benefactor. Yet where do we stand with regard to feeling Allah’s likes and dislikes? ☪☪ Muslim ☪☪ —
