The Top 19 Scariest and Most Sinister Pieces of Music Finally, the Number 1 scariest and most sinister piece of music to me is kind of a merger between Night on Bald Mountain and Mephisto Waltz. “Danse Macabre,” by Camille Saint-Saëns follows Death as he tiptoes into a graveyard at midnight and tunes up his violin. When he begins playing his waltz, the dead awaken all around him and start dancing. The party continues through the night until the rooster crows at dawn, and all the dead sink back into their graves. Death is left all alone once again, and he tiptoes back out of the graveyard. My 1st Grade teacher used to play this music for us and allow us to draw pictures to match the story. I think it was my most favorite thing to do that whole year.
