The Transformation Agenda: Are We Losing Traction? The ruling National Coalition (BN) won the 13th General Election with a simple majority. There are tough challenges ahead and these include the continuation of transformation programs that were laid out before the General Election. Since Independence (Merdeka) we have achieved so much in terms of national unity, which in turn is underpinned by strong economic growth and tremendous social development. The result of the last General Election indicates the emergence of fault-lines in the social fabric of our society. We now risk the possibility of social fabric being undermined. It is hoped that after 56 years of independence, Malaysians will become mature and cast aside their communal differences and put national interests first in their hearts and focus more on our goal to be a high income developed nation by the year 2020. There is a real need for national reconciliation as highlighted by the Prime Minister.
