The Tree of Life is not a case of plagiarism” : Chris Wilkinson and Andrew Grant write to Marco Balich 19/dic/2014, Chris Wilkinson: Dear Marco As I said in our telephone conversation, we are not concerned about your proposals for the Italia Pavilion and have no intention of filing any legal procedures. I was contacted by a couple of reporters but was badly misquoted. My feeling is that although there are some similarities between the two designs, I accept that yours comes from a different basis as outlined in your letter. As I mentioned in our telephone conversation, the design for the Supertrees was the work of Andrew Grant from Grant & Associates, the landscape architects for Gardens by the Bay. Wilkinson Eyre Architects’ role was mainly concerned with the Biodomes and it is unfortunate that we were identified wrongly by the newspaper reporters. Andrew Grant who was away at the time of the publication has been kept informed by me and I passed on your details to him but I don’t believe that he feels any differently from me. I hope this settles the issues raised and wish you every success with the project. Best wishes. Chris Wilkinson -------------------------------- 19/dic/2014, Andrew Grant : Dear Marco I just wanted to confirm that we share Chris’s position on this issue that seems to have been blown up out of all proportion by the media. We have been contacted by a couple of journalists but have categorically told them that whilst we recognise some similarities in form, we can see the character and feel of the Milan Tree of Life will be very different to the Singapore Supertrees. We have never considered for a moment any legal action and very much hope the press desist from any more versions of the plagiarism story. I personally look forward to seeing the finished structure. Perhaps we should start a monumental tree society! With best regards Andrew Grant
