Whether it was a deliberate illegal arms supply program under the guise of ineptitude or something else, the “Justice Department” is fighting hard to keep the truth out of the prying eyes of the American public. Judicial Watch has sought, through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed on June 22 of 2012, to have relevant documents released, as the law requires. They have asked for all documents relating to the operation as well as “specifically [a]ll records subject to the claim of executive privilege invoked by President Barack Obama on or about June 20, 2012.” That would allow them to ascertain not only whether any and what lawbreaking was conducted in program itself, the claims in the cover up could also involve falsehoods or criminality. The Obama administration has stonewalled every inch of the way, and now seeks the relief of a Federal Court to help him cover the collective derrieres of the ATF, FBI, Obama and team Holder. Holder refused to comply with Judicial Watch’s original FOIA request. In mid-September of last year Judicial Watch issued a follow up lawsuit challenging Holder’s denial. That lawsuit is still ongoing but this week the Obama regime filed a “motion to stay” the suit. If granted, the Judicial Watch suit would be delayed indefinitely and the information regarding potential impropriety on the part of the Obama/Holder regime could be secreted away from the public forever. In comments, Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton described Holder and Obama’s efforts to obscure the truth about Fast and Furious as “ironic” given their intense support of gun control. Fitton said, “It is beyond ironic that the Obama administration has initiated an anti-gun violence push as it seeking to keep secret key documents about its very own Fast and Furious gun walking scandal. Getting beyond the Obama administration’s smokescreen, this lawsuit is about a very simple principle: the public’s right to know the full truth about an egregious political scandal that led to the death of at least one American and countless others in Mexico. The American people are sick and tired of the Obama administration trying to rewrite FOIA law to protect this president and his appointees. Americans want answers about Fast and Furious killings and lies.” In his plea for secrecy, the only justification Holder used in his request was that there is another lawsuit ongoing for the same documents which was filed by the U.S. House of Representatives. Judicial Watch has prepared and filed a brief opposing the Department of Justice’s motion to stay. Having gone to the point of drawing a vote of contempt from the full House of Representatives, it is likely that anything short of a legal mandate will persuade Holder to come clean with the American people. Holder still remains under a criminal resolution for contempt, that resolution would require prosecution by the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Ronald Machen. Machen works for Holder and was told by Holder not to prosecute. A tremendous amount of effort and resources are being directed at helping this administration hide from Americans.
