The Truth about Verbal Bullying: Sticks and Stone can break your bones but Words only hurt if you let them! -Coach Jae Remember this: A word only hurts if you allow it to hurt. For a word to hurt you, you first have to accept it (own it), internalize it (swallow it), and digest it (keep it). Because someone calls you a word doesnt mean its yours. The words hurt because you allow them to hurt you. Look at it like this: Go pick up something poisonous in your home (kids do this with a parent). Now read the label on the back of what it will do to a human body. Question: With holding it in your hand and reading the warnings, are you in danger of death or harm? No you are not. You have to consume the poison for it to do harm to you. Words people call you are the same way. School, college, the workplace, your neighborhood or in your home, I dont care where someone calls you a name; It can only hurt you if you allow it to. You must consume it for it to do damage to you. BULLYPROOF101 Instruction label: Dont accept any words from people that are not meant to help you, heal you or encourage you. Sure, people might throw them at you, but you do not have to catch it, keep it, or consume it. Consider BullyProof101 your bully treatment center (like the poison treatment center) :) NEXT POST: What do I do if I or my child have already swallowed bad words Coach?
