The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost - Doing Christianity - TopicsExpress

The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost - Doing Christianity Increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord. What does true religion look like? How about all goodness? Good works? We dont do any of that to earn Gods love, after all; in the same prayer we proclaim God as the author and giver of all good gifts,. Everything comes fro God anyway, which is why we pray that God will help us in our response to Gods good gifts with true religion, all goodness, and good works. In todays excerpt from the Letter to the Romans, St Paul lays out very clearly and succinctly what these things mean in his mind. And like in all his writings, his ethical/moral advice is always after - in response to - his theology and explanation of the Gospel. Heres how, Paul says, to *do* Christianity. You start with your own worshiping community and work outward from there. St. Francis wrote a well-known prayer on how to do Christianity. Hes a fine setting by John Rutter, that also matches well todays Gospel: https://youtube/watch?v=iqXd5R-2s_k
