The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has been on notice that their system is flawed for many years. They fought off a lawsuit which initially gained a court order to make improvements in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) - U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs mental health services. This article would seem to confirm their intent to make no substantive changes unless directed by the courts or by Congress. The only bright light in this story is that the veteran survived. His survival was not due to the actions of the VA. His survival was due to a veterans advocate. That is a shame. Congress needs to undertake some serious reforms of the VA.
