The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing that federal Endangered Species Act protections be removed for gray wolves across nearly the entire lower 48 states. In a letter to Secretary of the Interior Jewell, the leaders of six prominent conservation groups (including the Center for Biological Diversity and Defenders of Wildlife) urge a cancellation of these plans, saying the program would be disastrous for gray wolf recovery in the United States. USFWS will soon announce a 90-day comment period for the public on this issue. In the meantime, you can read the letter here (biologicaldiversity.org/campaigns/gray_wolves/pdfs/Jewell_letter_5-9-2013.pdf) and you can follow developments, public commentary and weigh in yourself at the USFWS Facebook page (shared here).
