The U.S. Senate gave final approval to a $1.1 trillion spending bill, and it includes language forbidding the USDA from inspecting horse slaughter plants. This will ban horse slaughter on U.S. soil. The President is expected to make it law tomorrow. Its a great victory for our movement, and now we must ask Congress to pass the SAFE Act to ban live exports of American horses for slaughter to Canada and Mexico. We Americans care for horses, we ride horses, and we keep them as companions. But we don’t eat horses in the United States. And we shouldn’t be gathering them up and slaughtering them for people to eat in far-off places.
