The UPS guy showed up with a GINORMOUS box today. 2 1/2 foot cube. My sister told me she was sending some things Mom wanted me to have. The only thing I knew about were 3 small perfume bottles. As I lifted the box, I chuckled. It was incredibly light for its size. The laughter got louder when I cut the tape on the box. Inside was a sea of pink (Moms favorite color) and green packing peanuts. I dug my arms into the box, to come up with an odd-shaped bundle of bubble wrap. I couldnt hold back the giggles as I began unwrapping the tape and bubble wrap. I now have a softball-sized wad of clear packing tape, and seven sheets of bubble wrap. Let the games begin!!! In addition to the perfume bottles, Mom had her send me a plaque of the Serenity prayer. I must admit, the timing couldnt be much better. Serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. Wisdom to know the difference. Yes, Ill take more of that. My sister had also enclosed a few memorial cards from the memorial that wasnt, as well as a copy of the death certificate. Now I know my grandparents names. I dont remember ever meeting them. There is a LOVEly verse inside the cards. Something about being happy shes finally resting, that God called her home. Perhaps Ill type it out later. Odds, ends, a few old photos, knick knacks, some jewelry I recognized, some I didnt. A few Christmas things (my favorite holiday,) an old cedar box with Mother on the top, the pink lap robe I knitted for Mom that still smells like her. And a little leatherette box with one more perfume bottle inside, filled with ashes. My own personal memorial. Thursday. Today is Thursday. It rarely turns out the way we imagine. Hug someone today, would you? Its Thursday. Friday doesnt come with guarantees.
