The US Embassy has sent this weirdly alarmist message out about Thursdays DCTU Mayday march in Dublin. There hasnt been any form of trouble on a DCTU march since the early 1990s and that was a very minor scuffle with a far right religious outfit who turned up at the departure point blaring prayers out of a speaker system mounted on a car. From Embassy of the United States of America Dublin, Ireland - April 28, 2014 Scheduled Protest in Dublin City on Thursday, May 1, 2014 A protest and march organized by the Dublin Council of Trade Unions (DCTU) is scheduled for Thursday, May 1, at 6:30pm at Parnell Square in Dublin 2. The U.S. Embassy has no information on the expected numbers of protestors; police will be present throughout the scheduled protest. Even protests intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of protests, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations. Review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates. Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security .... blah blah blah
