The US Senate is struggling with a 1.2 trillion dollar spending - TopicsExpress

The US Senate is struggling with a 1.2 trillion dollar spending bill passed by the House last night. It is called the Omnibus bill, because it includes several other pieces of legislation. It is a highly controversial bill as it has set the President and the leadership of the Congressional Democrats against one another. The White House joined forces with Speaker Boehner and so-called moderate Republicans to squeak this bill through the House. 67 Republicans, mostly member of the tea party and 139 Democrats said NO to this legislation. Those Republican voters were upset because all funding to benefit key Obama programs were not excluded and the Democrats were dismayed because the bill would allow corporation to cut as much as a 30% of a worker pension, individual political donations could be increase by 10 times, but the most outrageous amendment in this proposal is a section written by Citibank which would repeal a clause that would prevent banks from using depositors funds to make high risk investments and then having the taxpayers to bail them out, replace the money they gambled away. Well, that safety valve was removed and now, if the Senate agrees the public will once again be responsible for our banks gambling debts. President Obama pointed out that there are a lot of good things in the bill and if passed will prevent another costly government shut down. The President said it is all about compromise, you cant get everything you hope for. Well, considering the evil within this legislation, it is not a compromise Mr. President, it is a white flag waving cowardly surrender. I am overly joyed that Nancy Pelosi and 138 other Democrats stood up for the American people and I hope Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and enough other Senators will just say NO! It appears we wont see a Senate vote until the Weekend.
