The US refuses to name grounds on which a Russian citizen was “arrested” in the Maldives and flown out to a US military base in Guam. The word “arrest” implies the involvement of a law enforcement agency which operates within a strict jurisdiction. The Maldives does not qualify as jurisdiction for US law enforcement, therefore, the correct term would be “abduction”. Abducting foreign nationals, on the soil of third countries is an act of aggression that could lead to hostilities or at the very least “tit for tat” retaliation, “Cold War” stuff.
