The #USA is a #corporatocracy* of plutocrats** that rule by power of coercion and delusion, a.k.a. respectively the big stick and the big lie. A confederation of nations so obviously deficit in egalitarian, libertarian and participatory democracy on its home ground can im-pos-sib-ly promote said virtues abroad - and by all means not with bombs. Any (US-lead) military intervention in the Middle East has never been, and will never be about democracy and humanitarianism; the name of the game is #power - #control and #monopoly - i.e. expansion of geopolitical power, installment of puppet regimes, control of markets, war, oil and banking industry profits, theft and exploitation of natural resources etc. By refusing to carry out meaningful airstrikes on ISIS positions around Kobanê and allowing the extremists to overrun the town unencumbered with US-made tanks, the Obama administration appears to have aligned itself with Erdoğan’s demands. The US knows that, in the months and years to come, it will need Turkish airbases and possibly Turkish ground support to defeat ISIS. Since it still considers the PKK and PYD to be terrorist organizations, it shares Turkey’s preference to have ISIS and the Kurds battle it out to death. This cynical approach confirms just how little interest the US and its allies truly have in promoting democracy across the region.
