The Ukranian-American community in New Haven gathered this morning to honor the Heroes of the Maiden. It was a pleasure to join them. These heroes stood up for the future of Ukraine—they demonstrated dignity, and a desire for freedom. I also announced that I will be joining with many of my colleagues to call for the release of Nadiya Savchenko from her illegal imprisonment in Russia. Ms. Savchenko—a Ukrainian Air Force pilot who served honorably in the Iraq War and who is a member of the Ukraine parliament—is being held in clear violation of her human rights and international law.
